Bioenergy, Bioproducts and its Relation to Food Security
Competition between biomass feedstock production for energy and materials with food production is one of the most crucial areas of concern. The Global-Bio-Pact project evaluates the impact of the production of bioenergy and bioproducts on food security.
For this purpose a general equilibrium model of the Global Trade Analysis Project (GTAP) is used. This model is modified to allow the analysis of the impact of the production and use of bioenergy on selected indicators of food security. This modification involves the integration of data about the economic and technical performance of bioenergy production systems. The results of this analysis will show the potential impacts of bioenergy production systems on food security in different countries and world wide.
