“Socio-economic Impacts of Biofuels and Bio-products” - Final Conference of the Global-Bio-Pact Project
This International Conference on “Socio-economic Impacts of Biofuels and Bio-products” is organized as final event in the framework of the Global-Bio-Pact project. Specific objectives of the conference are:
• to present Global-Bio-Pact results to stakeholders involved in sustainability aspects of biofuels and bio-products including certification
• to provide a platform for knowledge exchange among international biomass stakeholders
• to discuss current and future European policies on sustainability of different biomass value chains

The 5th Global-Bio-Pact Progress Meeting will be organised by INTA and WIP on 17-21 September 2012 in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Workshop Objectives:
• To create a platform for knowledge exchange among stakeholders from Africa, Asia, Europe, and Latin America
• To inform about the current activities in Mali on biofuel certification
• To inform about the jatropha oil sector and market in Mali and West Africa
• To inform stakeholders about different international perspectives, policies and legislation on sustainability
• To get feedback from associations, industry sector, and research organizations about sustainable biofuel production

The 3rd Global-Bio-Pact Progress Meeting was organised by MFC and WIP on 26-27 September 2011 in Bamako, Mali. This was an internal meeting for participants of the Global-Bio-Pact consortium only.
17 March 2011: Global-Bio-Pact Study Tour to Oil Palm Plantations and a Palm Oil Mill in Indonesia
This study tour included visits to the palm oil mill PT Karya Pertama Niaga Jaya CPO Mill in Batubara District in the North of Sumatra, Indonesia. Furthermore, a meeting with a group of independent oil palm farmers in the Perbaungan District was organised.

21 March 2013: Workshop on Sustainable Biomass Production in Southeast Africa
The workshop is organised by WIP Renewable Energies on behalf of NL Agency on 19-21 March 2013 in Maputo, Mozambique. The objective is to discuss and share experiences on current initiatives for the development of sound frameworks for bioenergy in African countries. Results of recent and on-going projects funded through the Global Sustainable Biomass Programme and the Sustainable Biomass Import Programme (the Netherlands Programmes for Sustainable Biomass – NPSB) as well as through the Daey Ouwens Fund (DOF) will be presented (www.agentschapnl.nl/en/biomass). Main work-shop aims include:
• Sharing the knowledge and experience gathered in the pilot projects with other project developers in the region, but also with a wider public
• Sharing knowledge and experience with national governments on sustainable biofuel policies
• Exchanging knowledge and experiences with other (international) organisations and interna-tional round tables on sustainable biomass pro-duction
• Attracting new partners and investors for the follow-up of the projects
Participants are key stakeholders from Mozambique, Tanzania, South Africa, Kenya, Rwanda, Burundi, DRC, and other African countries, as well as from the international bioenergy community.

The participants of the 10th Conference on Biofuels “Fuels of the Future” will meet at Berlin’s International Congress Centre on 21 and 22 January 2013. Global-Bio-Pact will be presented at this conference. For more details, click here.
13-15 November 2012: IEA Bioenergy Conference 2012
The IEA Bioenergy Conference 2012 will provide to stakeholders in R & D, industry and policy an insight into the recent research and market developments in bioenergy. The conference includes all topics dealt with by IEA Bioenergy as well as by partner organizations like FAO, GBEP and UNDP.
Presentations will address all stages in bioenergy systems: from growth of biomass, to conversion to energy carriers and, to use for energy services. Cross cutting topics like sustainability (GHG emissions), socio-economy and trade will also be discussed. Policy makers will benefit from the latest conclusions on policy recommendations based on a global scientific energy technology network.
Participants will be presented the latest information on promising bioenergy technologies in the stimulating and enjoyable surroundings of the Schloß Schönbrunn Conference Center. A pleasant social programme also provides opportunities for relaxation and networking.

The First Canada-Europe-Australia-New Zealand Workshop on Biotechnologies for Biorefineries and Biobased Materials in the context of the "International Knowledge-Based Bio-Economy (KBBE) Forum: A cooperation initiative between European Commission, Australia, Canada and New Zealand" took place on 5-7 October 2010 in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada. The Global-Bio-Top project is one of the selected projects for the so-called EU-Canada Twinning Activity of the European Commission.
